Mr. Ashok Ganguly is the former Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education. Mr. Ganguly introduced several reforms to reduce student stress, raise levels of learning and modernise the systems of evaluation. He introduced new subjects, courses and a range of teacher- and principal-in-service training and empowerment programmes, including one in partnership with IIM-Ahmedabad. Underlining the need to develop new skills for the new century, Mr. Ganguly introduced Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in the Class XI-XII curriculum.

A UP Civil Services officer, Mr. Ganguly has served in several divisions of the UP Education Department. As a member of the National Steering Committee and the Central Advisory Board of Education, he played an important role in the development of the National Curriculum Framework 2005. He was the Chairman of the Ganguly Committee on admission to Nursery.
